This article shows the historical relations between Canada and Latin America and the Caribbean –Cuba in particular– from the days in which contemporary countries in the region had not been constituted as national states. Supported on the historical method and the bibliographic revision, the aim of the analysis is to dig in the essence of the present Latin-American integration process and the reestablishment of democracy in the regional context, a fact that is revealed through the existence of progressivist governments of nowadays. At the same time, the objective is to go deep into the connection between the American Third World and Canada as an alternative to the regional development, as well as in foretelling the possible alignment of this big country in the frame of the recently held Summit of the Americas in connection with previous CELAC summits.
