El objetivo principal de este artículo es estimar la relación entre trabajo doméstico no remunerado y salarios para parejas heterosexuales en Chile que comparten un hogar. Se usa información sobre el uso del tiempo para el año 2015, y los principales resultados confirman la existencia de una relación negativa entre el tiempo dedicado al trabajo doméstico y el salario para las mujeres, con una estima del 3,7 %. Análisis adicionales revelan que las ocupaciones median la relación entre trabajo doméstico y salarios, mientras que alrededor del 12 % del diferencial salarial entre hombres y mujeres está explicado por el trabajo doméstico no remunerado.

The aim of this article is to estimate the relationship between housework and wages for heterosexual couples living together in Chile. Using information of the time use for 2015, the main results confirm the existence of a negative association between housework and wages for women, with an estimate of 3.7 %. Further analyses reveal that occupations mediate the association between housework and wages, whereas around 12 % of the gender wage gap is explained by the time devoted by women to housework.
