FACTORES QUE DETERMINAN EL USO DE GEOSINTÉTICOS EN PROYECTOS DE PAVIMENTACIÓN EN COLOMBIA

FACTORS WHICH DETERMINATED THE USE OF GEOSYNTHETICS IN PAVEMENTING PROJECTS IN COLOMBIA

La década de los 70’s marcó el comienzo del uso de materiales sintéticos con base en polímeros en el ámbito de la ingeniería civil mundial. Su desarrollo en obras de pavimentación fue especializándose progresivamente cumpliendo con funciones como refuerzo, estabilización, drenaje y relleno. Desde mediados de los 80’s la ingeniería colombiana ha venido utilizando estos materiales y su uso se ha difundido masivamente en la mayoría de proyectos de pavimentación en el país.
Este artículo presenta una investigación sobre las condiciones de empleo de geosintéticos en el mundo y en Colombia. Teniendo en cuenta las condiciones de mercado, tecnología y conocimiento del medio colombiano se analizaron los factores que rigen el uso de estos materiales en el país. El estudio permitió identificar la importancia que tiene incluir estos materiales dentro de las metodologías de diseño estructural de pavimentos y la necesidad de crear una cultura sobre su uso eficiente a través de investigación y academia.

The 70’s marked the beginning of the use of synthetic materials based on polymers in the field of the world’s civil engineering. Its development in pavementing works are specializing progressively full filling with functions like reinforcement, stabilization, drainage and filler. Since 80’s, Colombian engineer has come using these materials and their use have been massively diffusing in most of pavimenting projects in the country. This article presents a research about employment conditions of geosynthetics in the world and in Colombia. Too taking into account conditions market, technology and knowledge conditions in the Colombian field, were analyzed some factors that control the usage of these materials in the country. The study let’s identify the importance of including these materials in the methodologies of pavements’ structural design and the necessity for creating a culture about of efficiency use through the researching and the academy.
