La creación de hipertextos con el objetivo de desarrollar investigaciones pedagógicas ha fallado, en gran medida, debido a métodos equivocados de los que se derivan los errores en el diseño de los materiales hipertextuales.  Con respecto a los paradigmas de investigación en el área hipertextual, no hay un modelo único o exclusivo que de cuenta de todas las posibilidades investigativas. Hay problemas específicos de investigación que pueden ser estudiados a partir de análisis particulares, basándose en los que se pueden establecer generalizaciones.  A manera de conclusión, la investigación pedagógica con sistemas hipertextuales e hipermediales tiende a abordarse a partir de exploraciones basadas en problemas de investigación específicos a los que generalmente no se les buscan relaciones coherentes con cuerpos de conocimiento o paradigmas de investigación.
