The thermodynamic functions free energy, enthalpy and entropy of transfer were determined for sulfanilamide and sulfamethoxazole over the temperature range of 20.0 – 40.0 ± 0.1 °C, from partitioning data in octanol/water at the isoelectric point and at pH 7.4 at 0.15 mole/L ionic strength. The actual calculated and experimental partition coefficients and the respective thermodynamic functions, were found to be very different for sulfamethoxazole, therefore caution must be taken in the use of these equations.
