The results of the present work showed an antimicrobial broad spectrum for the variabiline and its enanthiomers against the Gram (+) microorganisms Micrococcus luteus, Staphylococcus aureus y Bacillus subtilis and the microorganisms Gram (-) Pseudomonas sp, Enterobacter aerogenes and Escherichia coli. There was no activity against Aspergillus tamari, Aspergillus niger y Penicillium sp fungi at the assayed concentrations. The antitumor activity was observed at 2.5 μg/mL while the inhibitorial concentration was determined at 18.0 μg/mL. Bioassay in the brine shrimp Artemia salina showed a lethal concentration LC50 of 272.0 μg/mL.
