Valor de la endoscopia en el estudio de las Enfermedades del Esófago

Se analizan los resultados obtenidos en 269 esofagoscopias de las cuales 104 fueron practicadas en pacientes del sexo femenino (38.6%) y 165 en pacientes del sexo masculino (61.3%), con edades que oscilaron entre 15 y 85 años con predominio de pacientes por encima de los 40 años (68.2%). En 247 pacientes (91.7%) el estudio endoscópico reveló diferentes tipos de lesiones algunas de las cuales se ilustran en fotografías de casos representativos. Dentro de las lesiones estudiadas, predominó la hernia hiatal en 95 pacientes (35.3%), de los cuales en 58 (61%), se encontró asociación de esofagitis. En 83 pacientes con carcinomas (30.8%), el diagnóstico endoscópico fue concluyente en 73 (879%). Se hace una correlación endoscópico-radiológica y la confirmación diagnóstica por biopsia cuando este procedimiento se consideró necesario para aclarar la etiología de las lesiones.
