In the complex whole constitued by the Platonic
Dialogues it is possible to distinguish a set of problems that, despite changing and dynamic, remain within a set. Even though this set is not completely coherent, it shows, at least, in equal degree problems and solutions: Theory of Ideas, division of soul, etc. This paper deals, considering Timaeus, Philebus, and to a lesser extent Phaedo and Republic X, with Plato’s belief in a demiurge or father craftsman of our universe. Such treatment is
developed according to the relation established between this figure and the Platonic concept of causality. Therefore, an interpretation that covers and explains the different statements presented in the four Dialogues is proposed, in particular, in relation with various positions
held by Plato regarding the problem of causality. The main thesis this paper defends is, on
the assumption that causes are divided into two types, that Plato identifies the demiurge with one of them, namely, with the teleological causes.
