Currently in Colombia, education at high school level has shortcomings in the development of scientific thinking of students. Specifically, problems were detected in physics teaching which are discussed in the present document in order to propose an alternative method of inquiry based learning. This method was applied in a physics class where some important characteristics of nanomaterials were taught. This work presents the design, development and implementation of an educational material for the teaching of nanomaterials called Nanobox, which was tested with school seniors. Regarding traditional teaching, the use of Nanobox shows significant improvements in different aspects of learning such as the perception of physics by students and the increase of curiosity and interest in scientific knowledge.
