Application of FBD-Power Theory to the analysis of effective lighting devices impact on Power Quality and Efficiency of an electric grid

Currently the impact of high efficient lighting devices
such as Compact Fluorescent Lamps-CFLs and Light Emitting
Diodes-LEDs is an important concern for the electrotechnical
community. In this paper a contribution to the determination of
the impact of these devices on the power quality and the efficiency
of an electric grid is proposed by means of the application
of FBD-Power Theory to the currents absorbed by CFL’s and
LED’s. An analysis of the waveform distortion related to the
standard IEEE 519 and an efficiency detriment quantification
are presented.
