This paper is aimed to propose two confidence indexes for a learning based fault locator, useful to deal with the uncertainty associated to the definition of the faulted zone. This helps the maintenance crew and operational staff to reduce the time of locating a fault.

The definition of the proposed indexes is detailed described considering a SVM based fault locator. Next, the test of such indexes is performed in a standard power distribution system, where the confidence of the proposal is demonstrated by the adequate selection of the faulted zone.

Finally, as it was detailed described at the results analysis, the definition of these indexes contributes to solve the fault location problem, by determine the confidence of the locator.
