LIGHTNING-INDUCED OVERVOLTAGE CALCULATION IN MATLAB ENVIRONMENT

For evaluating the lightning performance of distribution lines the availability of a software tool for the calculation of lightning-induced voltages is crucial. One of these tools is the LIOV code [1,2], developed in the framework of a research collaboration among the University of Bologna, th Swiss Federal Institute of Technology and the University of Rome. In this paper the LIOV code is introduced in the Matlab environment to realize a core code called Mat-LIOV. Additional features of the developed Mat-LIOV code includes an integration scheme of the Agrawal coupling model based on the 2nd order Finite Difference Time Domain technique [3]. In order to evaluate the response of more complex distribution systems an interface between the Mat-LIOV and the Power System Blockset toolbox (of the Simulink-MATLAB environment) is developed.
