We present a reduced-scale model developed to analyze the surge response of tall towers hit by a lightning return stroke. The height of the reduced-scale tower model could be varied from 40 cm to 1 m and the minimum rise-time of the injected voltage at its top is about 500 ps. The response of a simple configuration, namely a vertical cone is analyzed and compared with theory. One of the aims of the system is the study of the contamination of lightning current measured using instrumented towers.
