The new energy law introduced in Poland requires increased responsibility of power enterprises regarding reliability of energy production, power transmission and supplying this energy to the consumers. Noted progress in our country, especially in communication, measuring equipment standard and computerization requires quite new look at planning reliability and management of energy transmission and distribution networks. Power quality problems, occurring in transmission and distribution networks, can be caused by events and conditions within customer facilities or/and within the power delivery system. This paper presents the main problems of reliability and power quality assessment and improvement facing Polish electric power sector in that "new" era.
