Planning for Operation of MicroGrids Considering Small Hydro Power Plants: Transient Stability

The operation of the electrical distribution systemfor MicroGrids has yielded many benefits to the agents ofthe supply chain that have been included along its planning.Good planning can minimize the hazards and problems thatmay arise from its operation, each MicroGrid presents differentoperating conditions because they are shaped by factors thatmay vary depending on the implementation place, for instance:technology generation, load characteristics, regulatory policies,market conditions, and geographic, economic and environmentalcircumstances. Therefore, a MicroGrid planning should be madeaccording to each particular case. In this paper, we propose theimplementation of a local system control of Small HydroelectricPlants considered in the operation planning in the form ofMicroGrid. Intentional load outputs tests were performed inorder to observe the response of the control system and thetransient behavior of the MicroGrid. The results show that thevariables of the system remain within the ranges recommendedby international standards, which determines that a satisfactorybehavior is obtained in an isolated operation mode of thetransient stability.
