Colombian Total Lightning Detection Network and early detection of failure risk for power systems

This paper presents the deployment of a new total lightning detection network in Colombia. Historic data from 2011 to 2012 are used to reevaluate the lightning parameters such as ground flash density, multiplicity, polarity and others. Lightning detections from LINET are used to develop real time warnings and the opportune detection of failure risks for power lines.
