ALGORITHM FOR DESIGN OF FILTERS AND ITS EFFECTIVENESS FOR INDUSTRIAL LOADS

Due to the ever-increasing non-linear loads on the distribution systems, the presence of harmonics becomes inevitable. As a result voltage and current waveforms are rarely sinusoidal. The most common non-linear loads in the industrial market today, are the variable speed controllers and switch mode power supplies. This necessitates the study of non-linear loads on the distribution systems. This paper deals with field measurement of Harmonics dueto switched mode power supplies. A software program has been designed to calculate the shunt filter parameters. This program can also be interfaced with software’s like PSPICE.
