In three-phase electrical systems, due mainly to the presence of single-phase loads or generators, the imbalances in voltages and currents always exist. However, in the analysis of power systems in general, these imbalances are not taken into account since in most cases they are insignificant. In cases where the imbalances are notorious, they have a great impact on the quality of the power and can lead to problems in the operation of the systems and generate overloads. This paper presents some of the main effects related to the imbalances in distribution networks, which are evaluated through the simulation of a distribution system with Colombian characteristics.
