Objective: To map the phenomenon of self-management behavior in people with coronary diseases.
Methodology: Scoping review registered in INPLASY (202470126), following the guidelines of The Joanna Briggs Institute and PRISMA-ScR. The databases MedLine, PubMed, Science Direct, Lilacs, and BVS were used, employing the MeSH and DeCS terms Self-management, Nursing, Nursing Care, Coronary disease, and Cardiac disease, covering the years 2014 to 2024. Methodological quality was assessed according to the methodology of the selected studies.
Results: Thirty-five articles were included: 7 qualitative studies, 21 quantitative, 2 mixed, and 5 literature reviews. These studies were classified into thematic categories:
needs, barriers, and facilitators for self-management; self-management interventions based on the nurse–patient interaction; and self-management interventions mediated by information and communication technologies.
Conclusions: Self-management behavior in this population has been widely explored worldwide, except in Latin America, where further research and subsequent adaptation
of interventions to the Colombian context are needed.
