Ectatomma is a conspicuous genus of hunting ants (Formicidae: Ponerinae) with about 12 endemic species in continental tropical America. Eight species are reported here for Colombia: E. goninion, E. opaciventre (first record in Colombia). E. lugens, E. edentatum, E. quadridens, E. tuberculatum and E. ruidum, broadly distributed in the lowlands. Un like other ponerine ants Eetatomma includes species with a broad variation in ecological behavior, foraging strategies, and diet, which could account for their abundance and importance throughout the country.
