An Approximation to the Definitions of Impressionism

Este ensayo analiza la concepción que sobre el impresionismo
plantearon cinco autores (Émile Zola, Louis-Émile
Edmond Duranty, Pierre Francastel, Arnold Hauser y
Richard Shiff). Se trata de un primer acercamiento a
la problemática conceptual que estaba en la base de la
valoración de la pintura, tanto al nivel de las relaciones
entre la representación y la realidad como al nivel de
los puentes y rupturas con la tradición visual del siglo
XIX.

This essay analyzes five authors’ conceptions of impressionism
(Émile Zola, Pierre Francastel, Arnold
Hauser and Richard Shiff). It is a first approach to the
conceptual problems that were the basis for the evaluation
of paintings, both at the level or relationships
between representation and reality and at the level of
the bridges and ruptures with the visual tradition of the
19th century.
