El conocimiento y la tecnología disponibles en el país para el sector pecuario no se asocian con el nivel de desarrollo del mismo. Esto es particularmente cierto para el sector ganadero que aún tiene índices productivos muy similares a los de hace 30 o 40 años a pesar de los avances científicos y tecnológicos logrados en el mundo y en el país; así, el conocimiento y la tecnología disponibles sólo es aprovechada por un porcentaje pequeño de los productores.
