This paper offers an analysis of the paradox arisen by conjoining two of Quine's assertions: [1] that science is a theory about the external world —which we will call quinean realism—, and [2] that science cannot determine what the things of the world are in themselves—a consequence of Quine's doctrine of ontologica! relativity—. Howis it possible, then, to say that science is atheory about the world, if it cannot actually get to know the things the world consists of?
