In The Pragmatic Character of Explanation Peter Achinstein claims that every explanation is a pragmatic explanation. Mi purpose here is showing why Achinstein’s analysis is not convincing. In the sections 1-3 I summarize the reasons and critics motivating the Achinstein’s explicationist theory. In the last section I argue that, however Achinstein’s intention of pragmatic relativization of explanation, his attempt cannot undermine hempelian distinction between pragmatic and non-pragmatic explanations.
