Lightning parameters variation is nowadays a relevant discussion subject especially in tropical zones where several studies have been carried out for researchers from different countries like Colombia and Brazil in order to understand adequately lightning behaviour and its relationship with power quality. Spatial distribution of Ground Flash Density (GFD), i.e., seems to have a special behavior in Colombia, where it can be found places with a very high GFD values and some other with low values. Such behavior gives us the idea that lightning parameters can be related to other meteorological and/or geographic characteristics Some researches carried out in Colombia show that using modern computational tools such as data mining and fuzzy logic are adequate tools to manage the uncertainties and imprecision of methodologies and data related to lightning activities. Data mining tools as association rules have been proven effective and useful when users are looking for implicit or nonintuitive relation between data. This paper presents how the information presented before can be managed in order to find relations using data mining tool like fuzzy association rules that is very adequate in this kind of problems and what kind of dependences are presented between lightning parameters and meteorological or geographic characteristics.
