Análisis funcionales y explicaciones seleccionales en biología. Una crítica de la concepción etiológica del concepto de función

Contrariando la concepción etiológica de las funciones biológicas, se pretende mostrar que las explicaciones por selección natural, lejos de justificar atribuciones funcionales, las presuponen; y que estas atribuciones pueden ser entendidas apelando a una especificación particular de la concepción sistémica de función: concepción biológica de función. Se argumenta que la concepción etiológica de función se basa en dos errores fundamentales: confundir el concepto de función con el concepto de adaptación; y confundir las explicaciones seleccionales con análisis funcionales. Por eso la exigencia improcedente de que dichos análisis entrañen un contenido explicativo etiológico y posibiliten la distinción entre adaptaciones y exaptaciones.
