Los actuales siona son descendientes de los 18,000 tucanos occidentales que ocuparon las cuencas de los ríos Caquetá, Putumayo y Aguarico en Colombia y Ecuador. Debido a las transformaciones socio-económicas de la región y a la pérdida del territorio ancestral, cuando la autora antropóloga inició sus investigaciones entre los siona de Buenavista en los setentas, no había curacas siona que guiaran las tomas de yajé. No obstante, en los años siguientes, los siona retomaron las tomas colectivas de yajé para fines espirituales y políticos. Actualmente, el “taita”, nombre actual para referir al especialista ritual, es reconocido como la autoridad tradicional y el defensor del territorio sagrado frente a la violencia armada y las actividades petroleras en la región. Este artículo presenta una narrativa que contó el Taita Pablo Maniguaje Yaiguaje a la guardia indígena después de una toma de yajé para introducirlos al mundo invisible del territorio. Con base en su análisis, se argumenta que las prácticas chamánicas contemporáneas de los indígenas siona son una demostración de su resistencia y re-existencia. La narrativa de Taita Pablo demuestra la continuidad de la poética y de la política del papel del chamán.
The present-day Siona are descendants of the some 18,000 Western Tucanoans who occupied the Caquetá, Putumayo and Aguarico river basins in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. When the anthropologist/author began her research among the Siona of Buenavista in 1970, there were no Siona curacas to guide the yajé rituals due to socio-economic transformations and loss of ancestral territory. However, in the following decade, the Siona resumed their collective yajé rituals for spiritual and political ends. The taita, a term that currently refers to the ritual specialist, is recognized as traditional authority and defender of the sacred territory in the face of the region’s armed violence and extractive activities. This article presents a narrative told to members of the Siona Indigenous Guard by Taita Pablo Maniguaje Yaiguaje after a yajé ritual in order to introduce them to the invisible world of the territory. The article argues that the contemporary shamanic practices are a demonstration of their resistance and re-existence. Taita Pablo’s narrative demonstrates the continuity of the poetics and politics of the shaman’s role.
Os atuais siona são descendentes de los 18,000 tucanos ocidentais que ocuparam as bacias dos rios de Caquetá, Putumayo y Aguarico na Colômbia, Equador e Peru. Devido as transformações socioeconómicos da região e a perda do território ancestral, não existiam curacas siona para guiar as tomas de yajé (ayahuasca, Banisteriopsis sp.) quando a autora antropóloga iniciou sua pesquisa na comunidade siona de Buenavista na década de 1970. Porém, posteriormente os siona retomaram as tomas coletivas de yajé para fins espirituais e políticos. Atualmente, o “taita”, designação atual para o especialista ritual, é reconhecido como a autoridade tradicional e o defensor do território sagrada frente a violência armada e as atividades petroleiras na região. Este artigo examina a narrativa de uma experiência xamânica contada à guarda indígena por taita Pablo Maniguaje-Yaiguaje após de a uma cerimônia de yajé com o fim de introduzir-lhes ao mundo invisível do território. Segundo a análise da narrativa, as práticas xamânicas contemporâneas dos indígenas siona são uma demonstração de da resistência e re-existência siona. A narrativa de Taita Pablo demonstra a continuidade da poética e da política do papel do xamã.
