Criterios de diseño con tolerancia de daño-prevención de fallas catastróficas

Como una tercera etapa, en el grupo de investigación “Tratamientos Termoquímicos de los Aceros” se ha venido trabajando en la optimización del tratamiento térmico con criterio de tolerancia de daño en aceros de construcción de elementos de máquinas. En este artículo apoyándose en unos primeros resultados experimentales y en conceptos de mecánica de fractura se describen recomendaciones de diseño con tolerancia de daño y se muestra cómo en la selección de un acero y de su tratamiento térmico se debe hacer un cuidadoso balance de resistencia-tenacidad de fractura de acuerdo a un riesgo de falla aceptable.
