Después de recordar lo que debe entenderse por explotación racional e integral de canteras, se pasa a analizar con detalle los aportes de la ingeniería de rocas a esta práctica cotidiana tales como su apoyo en la determinación tanto de la localización de la planta de trituración como en la selección de los equipos que deben utilizarse.
Los aportes son extensivos a las metodologías utilizadas para la determinación de las características físicas y mecánicas de las rocas y del macizo rocoso, tanto directas como indirectas. En esta segunda parte se hace hincapié en la evaluación de los problemas potenciales de deslizamiento en roca; esto es, en el análisis cinemático.
En un artículo anterior se llamó la atención sobre el empleo de los materiales pétreos producidos en una cantera, así como en los métodos de explotación y en los cuidados que deben tenerse al explotarla.
