Sustancias húmicas en aguas para abastecimiento

Las sustancias húmicas hacen parte de los productos de degradación de la materia orgánica del suelo y se incorporan a las aguas superficiales por la acción de lavado que realizan las aguas de escorrentía. Estas sustancias han sido reconocidas como precursores en la formación de subproductos de la desinfección con cloro libre en plantas de tratamiento de agua potable. Los subproductos de desinfección, compuestos orgánicos halogenados, se han catalogado como sustancias potencialmente cancerígenas en humanos, y por tanto el interés en conocer más sobre las sustancias precursoras, mecanismos de formación de subproductos de desinfección, situación nacional y métodos para disminuir su formación.
