El presente artículo describe el análisis teórico que se aplicó al colector solar de placa plana desarrollado por el Grupo de Ingeniería Solar de la Universidad Nacional. Esta investigación se llevó a cabo para diseñar y estudiar el comportamiento de un dispositivo que transformara la energía solar en energía térmica para una necesidad específica (el calentamiento de agua), en condiciones meteorológicas y geográficas propias de la ciudad de Bogotá.
