Relativism and the empirical equivalence of scientific theories in the philosophy of W. V. O. Quine

Mi propósito en este ensayo es mostrar que al enfrentarse al problema de la equivalencia empírica de teorías científicas Quine está comprometido con la adopción del relativismo epistemológico. Para probar esta tesis argumento, en primer lugar, que la única vía de solución a este problema que resulta coherente con el empirismo quineano es la adopción de la posición sectaria y, en segundo lugar, que la aceptación de esta última posición implica la aceptación del relativismo.

My purpose in this essay is to show that in dealing with the problem of the empirical equivalence of scientific theories Quine is committed to embracing epistemological relativism. To prove this thesis, I argue, firstly, that the only way to solve this problem that is consistent with Quinean empiricism is the adoption of the sectarian position and, secondly, that the acceptance of this last position implies the acceptance of the relativism.
