Objective: To map the assessment instruments used with non-institutionalized older adults.

Methods: A scoping review was conducted based on the guidelines of the Joanna Briggs Institute. A sample of studies published between 2015 and March 2026 in English and Spanish was identified, drawn from databases such as Scopus, PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Clinical Key. Thirty documents were selected from the 620 identified, in accordance with the inclusion criteria.

Results: The analysis identified approximately 90 assessment tools used to study the biopsychosocial dimensions of older adults. Among others, multidimensional
approaches derived from comprehensive geriatric assessment stand out, such as the Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment and the Multidimensional Prognostic Index. These tools demonstrated a high capacity for early risk detection, clinical stratification, and the planning of personalized interventions. A disjointed use of the instruments was observed, especially in Latin American contexts, where challenges persist regarding interdisciplinarity and the integration of these tools into primary care.

Conclusion: Interdisciplinary assessment tools are key instruments for understanding the complexity of aging among older adults living in the community. Their use facilitates a comprehensive, person-centered evaluation. However, challenges remain, such as coordinated implementation, cross-cultural validation, and adaptation to local contexts. There is a need to strengthen their integration into primary and community care models, especially in Latin America, to improve quality of life and promote healthy aging.
