The guadua (bamboo) is a natural material, renewable in few years, with good structural behavior for solicitations of parallel tension to the fibers, compression, flexion and torsion. However, its strength is poor for perpendicular tension to the fibers and shear. A good design of elements and connections in guadua, must keep in mind the anisotropic behavior of the guadua.
La guadua es un material natural, renovable en pocos años, con buen comportamiento estructural para solicitaciones de tensión paralela a las fibras, compresión, flexión y torsión. Sin embargo, su resistencia es pobre para esfuerzos de tensión perpendicular a las fibras y para esfuerzos de corte. Un buen diseño de elementos y uniones en guadua, debe tener en cuenta el comportamiento anisotrópico de la guadua.
