Conocer a fondo las fuerzas del cambio, diferenciar la tecnología medular de la periférica, prever con certeza, modelar el futuro y actuar junto con los más capacitados y audaces. Todas estas pueden ser proclamas cuya convergencia ayude a hacer realidad la utopía de un mañana más equitativo para los colombianos. El presente artículo tiene tres partes: una descripción muy simple del escenario actual de la ingeniería química, una prefiguración del escenario ideal y, finalmente, unas estrategias para orientar la acción de los ingenieros químicos con el fin de alcanzar el escenario ideal.
