La microelectrónica y los microsistemas, así como sus tecnologías asociadas, han tenido un crecimiento tan vertiginoso en los últimos años, que hoy se reconocen como uno de los elementos clave en el desarrollo de nuevos productos electrónicos y no electrónicos. Así la revolución de la microelectrónica es visible en áreas como telecomunicaciones, computadores, robótica, electrónica médica, instrumentación, electrónica industrial, aplicaciones automotrices, industria militar, y muchas otras más. El progreso en aspectos de la microelectrónica, tales como dispositivos físicos, fabricación, diseño de circuitos y desarrollo de sistemas, ha permitido que el campo de acción actualmente sea muy extenso.

4. The authors accept that such authorization is given free of charge and they, therefore, waive any right to receive remuneration from the publication, distribution, public communication and any use whatsoever referred to in the terms of this authorization.
