The Development of Competencies: The New Option for Effective and Affective English Learning?
El desarrollo de competencias: ¿la nueva opción para un aprendizaje efectivo y afectivo del inglés?

One factor that undoubtedly affects the acquisition of a foreign language is the social context in which the language is learned. Have you studied another language or do you know someone who has? How did they learn it? How much did they learn? Do they speak English? If we ask our best students, they will most likely tell us that they studied abroad; others will simply refer to specific teaching techniques of the foreign language for learning grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary, usually American or British English, that their teachers repeated to them year after year.
Un factor que afecta la adquisición de una lengua extranjera es sin duda el contexto social en el cual la lengua se aprende. ¿Ha estudiado otra lengua o conoce a alguien que lo haya hecho? ¿Cómo la aprendió? ¿Qué tanto aprendió? ¿Habla Inglés? Si preguntamos a nuestros mejores alumnos muy seguramente nos dirán que estudiaron fuera del país; otros, se limitarán a hacer alusión a técnicas específicas de enseñanza de la lengua extranjera para el aprendizaje de la gramática, pronunciación y vocabulario usualmente del inglés americano o británico que año tras año les repitieron sus maestros.
