A scientific article presents the findings of original, rigorous research adhering to the scientific method within the quantitative paradigm. These articles are usually structured using the Introduction, Methodology, Results, and Discussion (IMR&D) format. Accordingly, this reflection paper provides a guide with practical recommendations to minimize errors during the preparation of a scientific manuscript.
This guide begins with the preliminary elements to be considered when writing a scientific paper, including title, guidelines for standardized name formatting, authorship criteria, abstract structure and content, and keyword selection. Next, it offers strategies for writing the core sections of the manuscript, namely, introduction and methodology (covering population and sample selection, study periods, data collection and variables, statistical analysis, and ethical considerations), followed by recommendations for presenting the results and writing the discussion. It then addresses the final elements of the manuscript, including conclusions, recommendations, and referencing styles (in-text citations and the reference list). Finally, it presents recommendations regarding manuscript length, data availability, use of artificial intelligence, and formatting, concluding with a checklist to assess the article prior to submission.
