Se discute brevemente la importancia del análisis regional. Los métodos tradicionales de análisis regional de frecuencia son descritos aquí, en especial el nuevo método conocido como momentos ponderados de probabilidad (PWM). Otros temas esbozados son: la robustez del método regional PWM comparado con otras técnicas regionales tradicionales, los méritos relativos de estimación de cuantiles, cuando se realiza de forma puntual y de una manera combinada región/puntual y finalmente se analizan las características hidrológicas del Valle del Cauca con respecto a sus estadísticas.
