Dentro de esta transformación se encuentra un hito maravilloso y sobrecogedor: la aparición de la vida. Una vez aparecida ésta, la transformación mencionada se habrá de contemplar referida, necesariamente por la importancia que para nosotros representa, a la evolución de las especies vivas y dentro de ella contemplamos asombrados la aparición de la especie inteligente, de la especie humana. A diferencia de los demás seres vivos, que lograron su objetivo (supervivencia y perdurabilidad) apropiándose de los frutos y facilidades que le brinda la naturaleza, el hombre actúa premeditadamente para transformarla, procurando someterla y ponerla a su servicio. Inteligentemente actúa buscando no sólo la supervivencia y la perdurabilidad, sino que, además, procura su comodidad y su bienestar de vida. Es en esta búsqueda dentro de la que se puede enmarcar el desarrollo de las técnicas, la ciencia y la tecnología. En la última parte de la historia de la humanidad se aprecia la íntima ligazón del logro progresivo de condiciones para su bienestar, con el desarrollo de técnicas que al confluir con el desarrollo de los conocimientos de los principios básicos que explican, interpretan y modelan el comportamiento de la naturaleza, potencian y aceleran los desarrollos de nuevas técnicas, logrando y propiciando la elaboración y utilización masiva de bienes y servicios, con altas eficiencias y tasas de producción, para desembocar en tecnologías que jalonan, caracterizan y dominan el desarrollo moderno del mundo. Son la ciencia y la tecnología que confluyen en la atención de las demandas de la humanidad.
