La guadua forma parte de la cultura colombiana y, en especial, la que representa al Gran Caldas; con ella se han construido programas de vivienda, edificios con cimentación incipiente, al igual que diferentes usos, entre los cuales se destacan: canales y conductos de agua y diversos elementos artesanales. Como resultado de una visita técnica que se hizo al Centro Nacional de la Guadua, localizado en el municipio de Córdoba, departamento del Quindío, se mencionó el problema relacionado con el ataque biológico que constantemente sufría la guadua; fue así como se elaboró, a partir de esa realidad, una propuesta de investigación conducente a determinar algunos preservantes y métodos de inmunización para la guadua. El soporte fundamental del trabajo se hizo mediante el desarrollo de un proyecto de grado para optar al título de ingeniero agrícola a cargo de Clemente Camero Bustos y Juan Pablo Novoa P. Para el desarrollo de la investigación se evaluaron tres métodos de inmunización y tres tipos de inmunizantes, teniendo en cuenta aspectos relacionados con el manejo del producto, su eficiencia y el costo de la aplicación.
