This study seeks to identify the main trends in the production of scientific papers on innovation within the field of administrative sciences. To this end, a bibliometric exercise focused on the analysis of scientific documents published between 2006 and 2016 was developed. The results lead to conclude the existence of trends in the generation of new knowledge about innovation that are associated with management, knowledge management and innovation management. The trends identified describe the emergence of new approaches, such as open innovation or crowdsourcing, which will allow the future development of knowledge in innovation. Additionally, these emerging approaches are characterized by a growing development during the study period.
