Special Ingeniería e Investigación Edition – International Symposium on Power Quality – SICEL 2015

The International Symposium on Power Quality was held for the first time in October 2001 and took place in Bogotá. It was planned in order to provide and academic and professional space to discuss and exchange the experience on topics related to the quality of electricity service. SICEL has evolved from the main causes of faults and electric system outages, to the most recent developments for improving systems reliability and possibilities to develop new businesses and markets based on power quality.

In addition, SICEL has also addressed Smart Grids, which represent a global trend for the improvement and development of electric power systems. These have allowed the creation of new Information Technology based business to be implemented on existing and future grids, and offer the opportunity to rethink reliability, energy efficiency, sustainability and the way we, as electricity professionals, should face the challenges of future demand. SICEL 2015 was tuned to this opportunity, and offered sessions on smart grids to the attendees, where their contributions were presented and discussed.

SICEL 2015 was held in Universidad Técnica Federico-Santa-María - UTFSM in Valparaíso (Chile), and it represents the 8th occasion to gather experts on power quality from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Germany, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru and the United States of America. In this occasion, Professor Johny Montaña, ascribed to UTFSM and general host of the event, was invited to be guest editor of this special edition of the Ingeniería e Investigación journal, along with Profesor Javier Herrera, ascribed to the Facultad de Minas of Universidad Nacional de Colombia.

The 8th version of SICEL had five main topics: Power Quality (18 papers), Electromagnetic Compatibility (9 papers), Smart Grids (17 papers), Energy Management (6 papers), Research on Lightning (6 papers) and one paper on Regulatory aspects. The total of these 57 technical papers was organized in oral sessions, from which 15 papers were selected to be published in this special issue due to their outstanding contribution, innovations and quality. All of these were evaluated in accordance to the following journal requirements:

  • Double blind peer review
  • Each paper read by at least two peers
  • A peers committee formed by 32 highly recognized researchers; in this occasion: 15 of them international (47%), 11 Colombian (not involved with Universidad Nacional de Colombia) (34%), and 6 local readers (19%)

The Editorial Board of Ingeniería e Investigación is very glad to share these selected papers. We hope they provide an interesting outlook to our readers about the topics addressed by SICEL 2015.

Edición especial de Ingeniería e Investigación - Simposio Internacional sobre Calidad de Energía Eléctrica - SICEL 2015

El Simposio Internacional sobre Calidad de Energía Eléctrica - SICEL fue realizado por primera vez en octubre de 2001 en Bogotá, Colombia. Fue planeado con el fin de proveer un espacio académico y profesional para discutir e intercambiar la experiencia en tópicos relacionados con la calidad del servicio de electricidad. SICEL ha evolucionado desde las causas principales de las fallas y salidas de operación de los sistemas eléctricos, hasta los más recientes desarrollos para mejorar la confiabilidad de los sistemas y las posibilidades de desarrollar nuevos negocios y mercados basados en calidad de potencia.

Adicionalmente, SICEL también ha abordado las Redes Inteligentes, representan una tendencia global para el mejoramiento y desarrollo de los sistemas eléctricos de potencia. Estas han permitido la creación de nuevos negocios basados en tecnología de información a ser implementados en redes existentes y futuras, a su vez ofrecen la oportunidad de repensar la confiabilidad, la eficiencia energética, la sostenibilidad y la manera en que, como profesionales de la electricidad, debemos afrontar los retos de la demanda futura. SICEL 2015 estuvo sintonizado con ésta oportunidad y ofreció a sus asistentes sesiones sobre redes inteligentes, donde sus contribuciones fueron presentadas y discutidas.

SICEL 2015 fue llevado a cabo en la Universidad Técnica Federico-Santa-María – UTFSM, en Valparaíso (Chile), y representa la 8va ocasión en que se reúnen expertos provenientes de Argentina, Brasil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Alemania, México, Paraguay, Perú y los Estados Unidos de América en torno a la temática de calidad de energía. En esta ocasión, el Profesor Johny Montaña, adscrito a la UTFSM, sirvió como anfitrión y fue Editor Invitado de esta edición especial de la Revista Ingeniería e Investigación, junto con el Profesor Javier Herrera, de la Facultad de Minas de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia,

La 8va versión de SICEL tuvo cinco tópicos principales: Calidad de Potencia (18 artículos), Compatibilidad Electromagnética (9 artículos), Redes Inteligentes (17 artículos), Gestión de Energía (6 artículos), Investigación en Rayos (6 artículos) y un artículo sobre Aspectos Regulatorios. El total de estos 57 artículos fue organizado en sesiones orales, de los cuales 15 fueron seleccionados para ser publicados en esta edición especial debido a su contribución sobresaliente, innovación y calidad. Todos estos artículos fueron evaluados de acuerdo con los siguientes requerimientos de la revista:

  • Doble revisión anónima de pares
  • Revisado de al menos dos evaluadores
  • Un comité de pares conformado por 32 investigadores de amplio reconocimiento; en esta ocasión: 15 internacionales (47%), 11 colombianos (no vinculados a la Universidad Nacional de Colombia) y 6 evaluadores locales (19%)

El Comité Editorial de Ingeniería e Investigación se complace en compartir esta selección de artículos. Esperamos que los trabajos seleccionados ofrezcan una visión interesante a nuestros lectores sobre de los tópicos abordados en SICEL 2015.
