Starting the automation process by using group technology

This article describes starting-up an automation process based on applying group technology (GT). Mecanizados CNC, a company making metallurgical sector products, bases the layout (organization and disposition) of its machinery on the concept of manufacturing cells; production is programmed once the best location for the equipment has been determined. The order of making products and suitable setting up of tools for the machinery in the cells is established, aimed at minimizing set up leading to achieving 15% improvement in productivity.
El presente artículo describe el inicio de un proceso de automatización fundamentado en la aplicación de la tecnología de grupos (Group Technology, GT). Se realiza la organización y disposición de las máquinas (layout) basado en el concepto de celdas de manufactura en la empresa Mecanizados CNC, dedicada a la fabricación de productos del sector metalmecánico, una vez se ha determinado la mejor ubicación de los equipos se procede a programar la producción. Se establece el orden de elaboración de los productos y el adecuado montaje de las herramientas en las máquinas de la celda teniendo como objetivo la minimización de montajes, con lo cual se mejoraron los índices de productividad en un 15%.
