Recoge los rasgos centrales del diagnóstico del subsector de máquinas herramientas en nuestro país. En este trabajo se presentan apreciaciones válidas para afrontar el reto que plantea el retraso industrial y económico de nuestra nación.
La dependencia tecnológica, entre otros factores, es un escollo neurálgico por resolver en el proceso de definición soberana de las perspectivas y posibilidades de desarrollo económico.
La pretensión justa de los países en desarrollo de participar del progreso científico técnico pasa obligatoriamente por la definición, adecuación y materialización de planes de despegue industrial a mediano y largo plazo y fundamentalmente de la industria de bienes de capital y en particular de las maquinas herramientas. Además es imprescindible el soporte científico y técnico de los centros académicos y económicos como garantía del avance tecnológico e industrial. La investigación en maquinas herramientas cuenta con el apoyo financiero de Colciencias y del Cindec.
